The Gilded Cage

The world is alluring, and that is what the devil wants, something that will pull you into the world, make you yearn for it. Long for it, and some times you get the world, life becomes easy, ‘friends’ all around you . Suddenly your life revolves around maintaining this life style, “Prosperity knits a man to the world. He feels that he is finding his place in it, while really it is finding its place in him.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters  and this life that coincides so well with the world becomes a part of you. The worry of what people will think, do, consumes your whole being “There is nothing like suspense and anxiety for barricading a human’s mind against God. He wants men to be concerned with what they do; our business(the devil) is to keep them thinking about what will happen to them.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters.  The devil is a liar that aims to kill and destroy [1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. ]

This sort of life is like a guilded cage. You are trapped in a cage that has all the comforts but the part that is most interesting is the fact that the door is wide open and you can leave this cage if you choose to, most of the time you may decide to stay because the devil has blinded you into believing the inside of this cage is better. Sometimes this cage is not filled with comfort, sometimes it is filled with fear ,self hate and anxiety. You end up being trapped in your own mind constantly thinking about yourself, your troubles, me, me, me. [Hebrews 12:Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Christians are also falling into the trap of self obsession; thinking of their humility, how saintly they are, showing off their niceness, lack of tempers and overall goodness. while in the long run forgetting the whole purpose of worship is God. Your complete absorption with God, which is then reflected to the world so that they can see God working in you. after all it’s not all about you but God. God uses you to show His might, all you have to do is believe in Him, worship Him, strive to make Him the center of your life, your purpose for living. He alone knows the plans he has for you.

The scary part about all this, is that one day the door of this cage will close, the end is coming. It could be today, tomorrow or a hundred years from now, but it is coming; And time will run out [Isaiah 55:6 Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon] Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while he is near. A time will come when it will be too late. Do not let the devil fool you. God has provided a way to fight the enemy [The Armor of God

Ephesians 6: 10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might. 11 Put on the full armor of God , so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood , but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything , to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious]. 14 So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), 15 and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]. 16 Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.18 With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times  in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people.]

Do not be deceived.
